The Social Cognition Lab investigates social intelligence in human and non-human primates, with work focusing on a cornerstone of human intelligence: observational and imitation learning.
The focus of this laboratory is on the study of the development and evolution of social intelligence. A particular focus of this lab and its members is on social learning, a central social intelligence skill. Recently, in collaboration with the Think Tank and the National Zoo, this laboratory has developed the Ape Mind Initiative (AMI). This educational and research program funded by the National Science Foundation will bring students from all educational levels, Post-Doctoral, Graduate, Undergraduate, and High School students to the national zoo where they will participate in research and in two courses: The Evolution of the Human Mind and Primate Cognition Research.
